The SandPaper: Website Documents the Elements and Wildlife of North Beach From Every Angle Imaginable

Jim Verhagen is far more into wildlife such as this osprey and its catch than he’s into photography, but his website, ‘Readings From the Northside’, shows folks what’s happening in North Beach.

Jim Verhagen admits he’s not the most friendly person to talk to on the beach. If you were to start a light conversation, he might get up and walk right away in the middle of your sentence, to take a photo of an osprey. It’s not that he doesn’t like people – he’s just really into animals, specifically the wildlife of LBI. He has a rather unusual relationship with a certain gull. And yet, Verhagen is actually an intricate part of his community in North Beach.

Verhagen, 43, keeps the Wordpress blog site Readings From the Northside which has a pretty steady following. He was raised in North Beach but relocated to Ithaca, N.Y., for college and his eventual career. He bought a house in North Beach in 2008 and finds the balance to be there as much as possible.
