At one time, a 354-acre tract near Kunkletown along the Kittatinny Ridge in Monroe County was scheduled for development as an alpine-style auto racetrack.

Referred to as "the Alpine property," Wildlands Conservancy and the trustees of the Palmerton zinc settlement purchased the property, which has been turned over to the Pennsylvania Game Commission as part of State Game Lands 168. Closing on the deal was announced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on May 24.
