MILLVILLE — An environmental preservation group plans to transfer nearly 600 acres of land to the state, but a public hearing on the matter will take place before ownership can change hands.

The Nature Conservancy seeks to transfer the Menantico Creek Preserve to the state Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Ten parcels of land are involved, including four totaling about 445 acres that are contiguous to the state-owned Menantico Ponds and Wildlife Management Area. The other six properties are along South 2nd Street.
