South Bergenite: As Spring begins, DeKorte trails slow in recovery

The trail that leads out to the Saw Mill Trail will be one of the first to have work done by the Commission. However the Transco Trail is currently being worked on and officials hope it will mostly be open in May.

After sustaining over $2 million in damages from Hurricane Sandy only a small amount of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) DeKorte Park and trail system have reopened to nature lovers.

Only the Kingsland and the Shorebird walkways, which both flank the first parking lot, are open on weekdays.

The Transco Trail, which runs from the New Jersey Turnpike to the carillon in North Arlington, is currently being worked on by the Transco Pipeline Company.
