Daily Record: Fishermen finally see signs of winter

After a milder than usual fall, recent cold nights and the law of averages should pay off for ice fishermen.
North Jersey ponds and many small lakes already had a thin cover last weekend, so it shouldn’t take too many more temps in the teens to make a safe cover. Big lakes take longer to form the minimum safe four inches.
And if you don’t mind cold woods and fields, winter bowhunting and permit-muzzleloading for deer start on Tuesday, permit-shotgun deer on Saturday and rabbits, pheasants and squirrels are still fair game. Just be sure to have 2013 hunting and fishing licenses.
