The Star-Ledger: Black bear safely captured near Union Township municipal building
A juvenile black bear who had climbed into a tree near Union Township’s municipal building early this morning was brought down with tranquilizer darts about 10 a.m.
The bear loped into a Grandview Avenue backyard in the Union County town just after being shot with the last of three darts fired by officials from the New Jersey’s Division of Fish and Wildlife.
“He’s just moving through, trying to find a home,” Joe Burke, a wildlife technician with the division said as he stood over the sleeping bear, about 10 minutes after the bear loped into the backyard from his leafy perch, about 70 feet above.
