The Common Ravens at Laurel Hill have been keeping a low profile (we’re hoping they are nesting), but we are seeing them fairly often on Disposal Road near DeKorte Park (we love Disposal Road!).

The Meadowlands Commission’s Mike Newhouse has been banding birds near Harrier Meadow in North Arlington this spring – including this Savannah Sparrow, on New Jersey’s Threatened Species List.

Meadowlands Midges don’t bite, but they can be a tad annoying when they swarm. Here’s an up-close and personal look.  Don’t you love those feathery antennae?

Jim Wright writes, photographs, maintains a nature blog
and does slide shows and walks for the N.J. Meadowlands Commission. "Focus on the Meadowlands" features some of his recent photos of the area's natural wonders.
