On a recent “Birding for Beginners” walk at DeKorte Park, we happened upon these two Tree Swallows sharing a perch. Despite those calm exteriors…A turf war soon erupted. The male on the left started yammering away in whatever the Tree Swallow equivalent of yelling is…
The male on the right decided he wasn’t going to put up with any guff, and he screamed right back. They took turns screaming, or screamed simultaneously, stopping every so often to catch their breath. When we moved on, they were still screaming – something to do about who had first dibs, we think.
