WNJ Exclusive: WildNewJersey.tv celebrates 200,000 viewers!

by Jillian Weislo

Our readers have done it!  WildNewJersey.tv has reached 200,000 viewers for our blog!  Those tired old stereotypes about New Jersey - the Garbage State, "which exit?", etc - are giving way to a restored reputation as the most biodiverse state in the nation.

Founded by nature author David Wheeler in 2008, WildNewJersey.tv strives to continue expanding and diversifying our content.  Over the past six months, we have brought in popular new contributors like Joe Sapia (The Pine Barrens), David Moskowitz (New Jersey Moths), and Matt McCann (Fishing the Garden State), while our longtime contributors like Don Torino (Don's Jersey Birding), Thomas Gorman (Nature's Focus), Linda Gangi (Linda's for the Birds), and Jim Wright (Focus on the Meadowlands) continue to bring their unique perspectives to birdwatching, nature exploration, upcoming events, investigations, and profiles of some of the state's top places and citizen leaders.

WildNewJersey.tv also launched our first video series in the summer of 2011 (see below for links).  And Wheeler's Wild New Jersey Road Trip - expanding on his book, Wild New Jersey: Nature Adventures in the Garden State - recently completed its first year, with over 60 events before audiences ranging from Liberty Science Center and Jenkinson's Aquarium, to local birding groups and church groups.  (Email explore@wildnewjerseybook.tv to schedule an event.)

Yet the biggest boost has come from you, the reader!  Thanks to your helpful comments and feedback, your incredible images submitted for our Photo of the Week series and our two annual Nature Photo Contests, and your informative comments and feedback, we can better bring the news and the views that we all can enjoy.

Likewise, WildNewJersey.tv has strengthened our Facebook and Twitter networks, reaching nearly 1,600 fans and 3,000 followers, respectively.

Now, you have the opportunity to help WildNewJersey.tv continue to provide news and events daily.  Since we are operated by the nonprofit Edison Wetlands Association, funding to help with our expenses is always in demand.  If you are interested in helping support our outreach so that WildNewJersey.tv can remain free from advertising, please donate whatever you can afford.  Remember - it's tax deductible!  Click the Donate link to the left of your screen, or email us at wildnewjersey@edisonwetlands.org if you have any questions or would prefer to donate via check.

We also invite you to share your wildlife and nature experiences with us - it could be as little as a single compelling paragraph, or a vivid photograph.

Finally, WildNewJersey.tv is looking for enthusiastic volunteers and interns to join our team.  We are looking for story and photo contributors; online researchers; technical contributors for managing the blog, and social media enthusiasts to help expand our network.  All help would be appreciated - whether just a couple of hours each week from home or a more extensive involvement.  Anyone interested should email us at wildnewjersey@edisonwetlands.org.

Thank you for your continued interest in making New Jersey a little wilder every day!
