It’s prime time for Northern Shovelers and other ducks at DeKorte Park. This guy was pretty mellow, hanging out near shore, oblivious to the camera. We also had a Common Goldeneye, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Hooded Merg, Common Merg, Gadwall, Black Duck, Northern Pintail, Ruddy and Canvasback.

This has been a weird winter – still getting a Lesser Yellowlegs at DeKorte, along with three Greaters.

DeKorte Park’s Observatory begins a new month of free public viewing tonight, starting at 7 p.m. The observatory is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m. this month. Highlights tonight (weather permitting) include Jupiter and its moons, the Orion Nebula and our moon. More info is at http://www.rst2.edu/meadowlands/marshaccess/Observatory-publicviewingnight.html.

Jim Wright writes, photographs, maintains a nature blog
