East Brunswick Patch: Dr. Jane Goodall - Simply Awesome

By David Moskowitz: "On January 16th I attended the Smart Talk Woman's Lecture Series at the State Theater with my family to hear Dr. Jane Goodall speak. I knew she is considered one of the great field biologists of our time, a pioneer in Chimpanzee and primate research and a champion of human and animal rights. But I really didn't know much more about her.

From the moment she began speaking I was captivated. She spoke about her childhood, her mother's encouragement about pursuing her dreams, how she came to Africa and was taken under the wing by Louis Leakey, the world-renowned paleontologist, her amazing research, the incredible challenges facing Africa and other developing nations, good and sad times in her life, and so much more. But despite everything she has seen happen in Africa, from rainforest destruction, to the great loss of wildlife, to an exponentially burgeoning population, to widespread political and social unrest and poverty, her message was consistently one of hope."
