Star-Ledger: Mild winter weather breeds slews of western N.J. birdwatchers

The arch-white branches of the sycamore trees along the Musconetcong River reach toward the sky like skeletal fingers. They almost glow against the backdrop of Point Mountain, and the other brown, barren hills that line both sides of the river.

The parking lot of Point Mountain county park was full last few weekends. Hikers followed the dry, clear paths up to a bald outcrop of rocks, the point of the mountain, where a clear panoramic view of New Jersey’s Highlands unfolds.
