What better way to kick off 2012 than to celebrate an amazing achievement for 2011?
Tom Reed, a 23-year-old birder from Cape May County, just shattered the record for a Big Year in New Jersey. As of last Thursday, the recent Rutgers grad had seen 362 bird species in one calendar year, smashing the old record of 337 species set nearly a decade ago.
Yet he is so low-key about his feat that he refers to it as "this yearlong crazy thing."
