We still see Common Muskrats in the Meadowlands – they just aren’t as plentiful as in the old days. This thirsty guy was in DeKorte Park last week, on the Transco Trail near the Turnpike.

We are happy to announce that DeKorte Park's Marsh Discovery Trail will soon be open again from end to end. You'll soon be able to do a loop from the Environment Center to the MDT to the Transco Trail and back home - and see lots of Canvasback and Bufflehead along the way.

Noticed this Oriole nest for the first time the other day in DeKorte Park near the far parking lot. This is the first I’ve seen an Oriole using plastic for its basket net. Somehow just doesn’t seem right (or quite as nifty).

Jim Wright writes, photographs, maintains a nature blog (
www.meadowblog.net) and does slide shows and walks for the N.J. Meadowlands Commission. "Focus on the Meadowlands" features some of his recent photos of the area's natural wonders.
