Shore11.org: Snowy Owl at Sandy Hook, NJ

By Joe Reynolds: "Recently, I could feel winter bearing down on me. Another cold snap had taken over the region. Up north, Cape Cod had received 1 to 3 inches of fresh snow. Around Lower New York Bay, no snow, but it was a clear cold day with brisk north winds gusting as high as 20 mph.

With the onset of winter along the northeast Coastal Plain, many birds were being pushed down south in search of ice-free waters and snow free ground to forage for food. Mergansers, sparrows, finches, and buffleheads were all on the move."
