E the Environmental Magzine: A big-picture view of global warming

These NASA photos of the Arctic ice cap in 1979 and 2007 graphically show the effects of global warming. Arctic sea ice in the summer of 2007 was roughly 39% below the summer average for 1979-2000, a loss of area equal to nearly five United Kingdoms.

According to a recent Gallup poll, 43% of Americans — a substantial plurality — now believe that the seriousness of global warming is generally exaggerated in the news, compared to the 26% who believe the news is correct or the 29% who believe global warming has been generally underestimated.

Clearly far too many still doubt the impact of global warming.
