Focus on the Meadowlands: Fishy Osprey, Fruity Robin, October Snow

I watched this Osprey fishing above the Shorebird Pool in DeKorte Park during my lunch hour on Thursday, but it never got close enough for a photo. Fifteen minutes later, just as I was heading into my office, the bird flew past and showed off its catch of the day. Pushing the season a bit, I thought.

The American Robins having been hanging around the Crab Apple trees near the entrance to DeKorte Park. Tough not to take a picture without seeing red.
What’s wrong with this picture? It’s DeKorte Park’s butterfly garden after the late October snowstorm. Fortunately, the park’s buildings never lost electricity, and most of the damage was a lot of flattened Phragmites – not exactly a big loss. My efforts to photograph a “snowy” egret failed, alas.
