Laurel Hill County Park in Secaucus is beautiful this time of year, and its sweeping vistas to the west make it a great place to view migrating raptors. On a guided walk earlier this month we saw six migrating Bald Eagles.

One of the most numerous migrants this month has been the Northern Flicker – we counted more than 150 at Laurel Hill on our walk. The one above was photographed last week along DeKorte Park’s Transco Trail, perhaps looking for an ant appetizer.

The final touches are being applied to River Barge Park in Carlstadt – like the lighting on the railings on the bulkhead that overlooks the Hudson River. The park could open some time next month.
