WNJ Exclusive: Sandy Hook Bird Observatory hosts "Rare Birds of NJ--past & present" this Saturday

A violet-green swallow was spotted as a flyover at Stone Harbor Point last week.  This species is rarely found east of the Rockies. (Note: The individual bird seen here is not the individual seen in NJ.)

Sandy Hook Bird Observatory will be hosting a free afternoon program this Saturday (Oct 8). Expert speaker Bill Boyle will present a talk on "Rare Birds of NJ—past & present" discussing the changing nature of rarities in our state. He'll also be available to sign copies of his new book "The Birds of New Jersey."

Saturday's talk will be at 2 pm at the "Firehouse" building at Sandy Hook.  The firehouse is located just east (across the street) from the Sandy Hook Theater building, which is near the Chapel and Rodman Gun (the big black canon at the north end of Officer's Row).
