MyCentralJersey: Major flooding expected as NJ braces for hurricane

Dangerous Hurricane Irene was expected to brush the New Jersey coast on Sunday, spawning damaging winds and possibly record rainfall and coastal flooding, according to experts.

“It has the potential to be on par with some of the more destructive storms on record, and let’s hope we’re wrong,” said David A. Robinson, the New Jersey state climatologist at Rutgers University.
