What I have never understood was why anyone would devote so much time and energy to looking for birds.

I have a friend who seems to always be on the trail of some bird – on walks, by boat, in the spring, in the fall. When she goes on about warblers, it takes me a few seconds to realize she's not talking about 'Glee.'"
