Come to the Nature Center of Cape May for an exploration of the culinary delights of Prunis maritima, a native shrub of the northeastern coast also known as the delicious and tart beach plum. On Wednesday, August 31, director Gretchen Whitman will lead this Nature Center of Cape May annual culinary adventure.

During the program, Ferrante will offer an entertaining, in-depth look at the beach plum. The program includes a hands-on cooking demonstration, a sampling of all recipes, and an expedition to gather beach plums on the dunes of Higbee Beach. All participants will receive a Beach Plum Recipe Book and will be able to purchase locally-made beach plum jelly.

“What’s Yum About Beach Plums” program begins at 8:30 a.m. at the nature center. Wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for an outdoor hike. Sun and insect protection are recommended. Preregistration is strongly encouraged. The program fee is $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for children ages 3-12, discounted to $8 adults and $5 children for New Jersey Audubon members. There is no fee for children under three years.
