Bob Williams, vice president of forestry operations at Land Dimensions Engineering, is worried about the growing threat to the state’s pine forests posed by the southern pine beetle. He is also worried that the state is not addressing the real root of the problem: poor management and stewardship of state forests.

“The beetle is just a symptom of the disease affecting these natural resources,” said Williams. “And as a professional forester responsible for a lot of land, I’m really concerned. I’m happy to hear that something may be going on at the state level, but it seems the inability of the government to move quickly is hurting the possibility of any real success. To wait for the government to come up with a policy is discouraging, and they need to be providing stewardship for these lands.”
