Another record fish was reported caught from the inland waters this fishing season. The first came in May when James Dempsey of Ewing, landed a record 55-pound, 8 ounce grass carp. This week, the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife has confirmed that a bowfin caught by Chris Hoffman of Hamilton is officially a new state record.

Hoffman was fishing for largemouth bass from his boat in the Delaware River near the Mercer Generating Station in Trenton on July 4 when the fish grabbed a 4-inch soft plastic Senko around 7 p.m. Reeling it in on 6-pound test with a Shimano Reel and Mojo Bass Rod combo, Chris claimed that he was lucky the bowfin’s formidable teeth did not snap the line.
