The first published photos of the black bear cubs found this morning in Metuchen were captured by WNJ photographer Roger Donnan.

From My Central Jersey: "Patrolman David Liantonio said police began receiving calls about 7 a.m. of the bear sightings. He said the bears were spotted on Highland Avenue by Maple and Oak avenues and by Harvard Avenue. One cub is currently up a tree on Maple Avenue, Liantonio said.  Liantonio said the state Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife has been notified and police are waiting for them to arrive in the borough."

Initial reports were submitted to Wild New Jersey courtesy of Metuchen-based correspondent Lisa Donnan.

Last night, when my wife and I were out walking near St. Joe's, I caught a glimpse of one of these bears on the railroad bridge, but was not sure what I saw, and thought that maybe it was a large dog that I saw. Now I know what it was.
