WNJ Exclusive: NY/NJ Baykeeper Summer 2011 Kayak Tours

NY/NJ Baykeeper will be leading kayak tours again this summer. Tickets are on sale for $25 per person or $35 per person including boat rental. The 2011 kayak tour schedule is listed below. The first event, Rutgers Raritan River Float, will be held today. For more information, contact Amy Testa at 732-888-9870, ext 6 or Testa@nynjbaykeeper.org.

Sun, June 12 
Rutgers Raritan River Float
New Brunswick to Sayreville  2.84 miles  low tide 1216 hrs. Trip setup and run by Sustainable Raritan River.

Saturday, June 16
City of Water Day 
Liberty State Park. Boats on loan to MWA through Liberty State Park.

Saturday, July 23
(Rain date July 24):  11:00am – 2:00pm
Lawrence Brook– Edison Boat Ramp
Paddle up the Raritan River ½ mile alongside the improved riverbank of the Edgeboro Landfill then 2.8 miles up the Lawrence Brook past an abandoned marina, under the Turnpike and up to a dam at Westons Mill Pond.  Then return to the Edison Boat Ramp. 3.86 mile trip.

Saturday, August 20
(Rain date August 21): 12:30pm– 3:30pm
Navesink River Paddle – Rumson
Paddle out from the Rumson Boat Ramp, behind Barley Point then across the channel to the Hartshorne Woods area.  Paddle around the Locust Point area to the Oceanic Bridge and cross the channel to the Rumson side of the river and return to the boat ramp. 5 mile trip.

Saturday, September 17
(Rain or shine): 10:00am – 1:00pm
Perth Amboy Circle – Second Street launch
From the Second St. Launch, paddle up the Raritan River past a closed steel mill, dinner cruise ships to the Victory Bridge.  Then across to South Amboy, along a remediation project, proposed ferry terminal, sand mining operation and return to launch site through the mooring field of the Raritan Yacht Club. 3.7 mile trip.
