Asbury Park Press: DEP puts focus on registry education

Since launching on May 4, New Jersey's free saltwater registry has generated celebration, confusion and and no small amount of criticism. The joy comes from not having to pay the $15 fee to the feds, the confusion over the difference between the state and federal registries and the criticism over the heavy fines imposed for not signing up.

As of Tuesday, more than 102,000 people had signed up for the registry. Estimates of the state's anglers run from 500,000 to 1 million. So either the registry is off to a good start or there is still a long way to go.
