Nature Notes: For Earth Day...join something...do something good...anything!
Earth Day is once again upon us. This now 41-year-old event is no longer a surprise, nor is it unique to most of us. First celebrated in 1970, this brilliant idea came to Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-WI), after observing a devastating oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. His original intention was that this day should be an environmental teach-in day. The idea was widely accepted and it later was adopted as an annual event. April 22 is now also International Earth Day.
