The Gloucester County Times: A peril on the wooded paths of NJ

If you're frolicking in New Jersey's 1.8 million acres of forest, there's a great chance Lyme disease-causing ticks could be lurking on branches, leaves and grass.

The Garden State, situated in a highly dense area of ticks, is classified as an "abundant" tick and Lyme disease area by the American Lyme Disease Foundation. More than 4,500 cases of the disease were confirmed in the state 2009, according to the Center for Disease Control.

The culprit: Black-legged deer ticks.
