Gloucester County Times: Officials using fish to keep mosquito population under control

On the nicest day so far of this young spring season, Gloucester County officials spent part of their afternoon prepping for the coming mosquito menace by dumping more than 5,000 mosquito-hungry fish into water sites throughout the county.

Along with the standard chemical sprays and traps, the county uses the Gambusia affinis a small, guppy-like fish as a means to combat mosquitoes and, consequently, the West Nile virus they carry.
