The Star-Ledger: Jersey's Wild Side

When you think of wild New Jersey, what likely comes to mind are the mating habits of the tanned, tufted “Jersey Shore” crew or the day before Christmas in the parking lot at Garden State Plaza. Dog-sledding and falconry? Not so much.

But native New Jerseyan David H. Wheeler wants to open our eyes to the untamed beauty that still exists in the Garden State. Wheeler, 37, a former marketing executive who considers the Jersey Shore his hometown, has written “Wild New Jersey: Nature Adventures in the Garden State,” just out from Rutgers University Press. The book was partially inspired by his former commute through the Meadowlands.
