Hunterdon County Democrat: Tewksbury Twp. might have to stop feeding deer on Whittemore Preserve

If pending state legislation becomes law, a herd of deer that are used to being fed could have to fend for themselves. When Helen Whittemore, a township resident, died more than 30 years ago, she left her land and money to the deer and birds that she loved so much.

The township took on the responsibility of making sure Whittemore’s will is carried out. That includes managing the sanctuary’s finances and having a caretaker live on the property.
