On February 5, 2011, we flew into Tanzania to the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti Plains is the home of nature’s greatest spectacles, including the migration of over a million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle. We first stayed at Lake Masek Luxury Tented Camp and then at Kusini Tented Camp. At these unique facilities, we were in the bush instead of being surrounded by a gated enclosure. Animals were free to wonder through our camps. What a wonderful way to greet a new day.

The last stop of the trip was the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. We could look out from our rooms into the Ngorongoro Crater. For the game drives, we descended 2,000 feet to the crater floor. The crater is home to abundant game, including the “big five” – elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo.

And that brought an end to the best nature photography trip I have ever taken. To view additional images, visit my website, www.pbase.com/pineytom.
