NJ Herald: Rain puts amphibians on the move

Scientists know why the salamanders cross the road. They also know it can take as long as a minute for the amphibian to get from one side to the other.
And that leads to the high mortality rate when, on the first few rainy nights in March, the normally woods-dwelling creatures make their way toward the breeding ponds created by melting snow and falling rain.
