There are fewer deer in Essex County than there were six weeks ago. Despite objections, an annual deer hunt across the county has thinned out the deer population by 339. The largest number, 233 animals, were taken within Hilltop Reservation’s 284 acres.

"The annual deer culling program reduces the 'staggering' number of deer that wander into roads and create dangerous situations for drivers in areas like Hilltop", said Essex County executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr.
