This Cooper’s Hawk is one of two which visit our yard regularly in search for smaller birds.  This particular Coop visited just after sunrise, and then again at mid-afternoon.  He flew in and perched about 15’ away from where I was setup taking pictures.  At his second visit, he did not seemed pleased with my presence, as he proceeded to scream at me and then flew off, and was not to be seen for the rest of the day.

It is one thing to see them migrating by the Wildcat Ridge WMA hawk watch, but it is another to see one within 15’ and be able to get nice pictures of it.  This species is listed as Threatened in the State of New Jersey.
