It’s time to get your “cod” on. Offshore trips for the tasty bottom brawlers have been pretty darn good over the last week, and there’s no better fish to put in the oven than that buttery tasting groundfish. We think that January is a dead month in Jersey, but bottomfishing opportunities are abound, and there are plenty of boats running to the grounds to do the dirty work for you.
Captain Bob Bogan of the Gambler, Point Pleasant, had a solid run to the 25-mile wrecks on Wednesday. An assorted mix of cod, blackfish up to six pounds and baseball-sized ling hit the decks with most fares scoring 3 or 4 keeper cod to put on the dinner table.
