NJ.com: Disabled hunters will go gunning for deer at Hunterdon golf course

Andrew McKinney, 30, of Nashua, N.H., poses near his house with his shotgun in this file photo. McKinney, who broke his neck in a swimming pool accident, designed a lanyard made from a shoe lace, which allows him to hunt. A lanyard that attaches from his wrist to the trigger allows him to fire the rifle without using his impaired fingers.

The county Park and Recreation Department’s annual special deer hunt to reduce the herd at the county-owned Heron Glen Golf Course here will be Jan. 20, 21 and 22.

Jerry McCusker, president of the Spruce Run Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, which runs the Wheelin’ Sportsmen program for disabled hunters, said today he expects 15 participants over the three-day hunt. Among the hunters are members of the U.S. military’s Wounded Warriors program. Some hunted at Heron Glen last year. Others are new to the hunt.
