On December 1, 2010, Former New Jersey Governor James Florio joined a Senator Robert Menendez representative, State Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande, Marlboro Mayor Jonathan Hornik, environmental leader Robert Spiegel of Edison Wetlands Association (EWA), and community activists at the Imperial Oil Superfund Site to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Superfund program in Marlboro, New Jersey. The group called on the federal government to reauthorize and fully fund the Superfund program in which polluters pay for toxic site cleanups, not American taxpayers.
“It is important that the Administration restore the Superfund tax on polluters so that the taxpayers are not required to clean up those problems caused by the industry,” said Governor Florio. “The principle of ‘Polluter Pays’ must be preserved.”
