The state-owned Rockport Pheasant Farm in Mansfield (Warren), which has raised pheasants since 1923, has been improved and expanded with the expectation of releasing 55,000 of the birds annually.

Amid a pouring and icy rain on Thursday, state Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin dedicated the new rearing complex, which was created at no cost to taxpayers. The $1.3 million project was financed by sportsmen's fees and stamps. The complex replaces an outdated facility that was long overdue for an overhaul.
