Opponents of the Main Street Bypass are moving forward with plans they hope will keep the proposed roadway from becoming a reality.

Representatives from various environmental groups, including the Edison Wetlands Association, the NY/NJ Baykeeper, the New Jersey Sierra Club and Raritan Riverkeeper, held a press conference yesterday on the borough waterfront to announce support for the state Department of Environmental Protection's denial of the borough's application to build the 4-mile of roadway that would run parallel to Main Street along the Raritan River.

The group also is calling on Gov. Chris Christie to rescind the $10 million in state funding allocated for the project.
