After a coyote violently attacked her dog, a local woman wants the community to launch an awareness campaign so people take precautions for the safety of both their children and pets. Kinnelon Police Lt. John Schwartz said police were summoned to a Beechwood Terrace residence in Smoke Rise at 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Schwartz said the homeowner, Sandra Lopez, told police that a coyote ran off into the woods with her pet dog, a 20-pound pug.
Lopez heard her dog making noise and looked out in the backyard and saw the dog in the coyote's mouth. She tried to scare the coyote off, but was unsuccessful, Schwartz indicated.

Whan are people gonna get it through their heads that we can not keep building condos, shopping malls, new highways ,and such and not stop to consider where the wildlife is supposed to go to live. where do they build their homes?Where do they hunt or scavange for their food? They hav to live and eat somewhere? So they are going to do it amongst us we invaded their homes and they have to pay the price. And the animal rights groups want to come down on the hunters they need to come down on the ones stealing the land from the animals so that they have a new store to shop in or a new condo,STOP TAKING AWAY THEIR HOMES AND HUNTING GROUNDS and keep the population under control through hunting. How many stores do we really need? And how many more sets of townhouses or condos? They just overcrowd the schools...why not fix up run down areas instead of taking awy all of the wooded areas where there are already plenty of four legged residents living tell me WHERE ARE THEY EXPECTED TO GO? Are they supposed to search the web for a new den or fishing hole?
