By Sandy Bauers: The existence of a floating island of plastic in the Pacific Ocean is well-known. Activists and scientists have voyaged there and documented it. But what of the plastic in the Atlantic?

A paper published in a recent edition of Science Express, a publication of the nonprofit American Association for the Advancement of Science, gives some clues.
