Perfect Saturday summer weather greeted canoes and kayaks on the Wallkill River. Some 15 canoeists and kayakers of varying levels, from extreme beginners to super experienced and everywhere in between, took to the Wallkill near the Raso’s Rest- Bassett Bridge area. The tour, sponsored by the Wallkill River National Refuge, was led by volunteers, husband and wife team, Cheryll Compton and Kevin Jones.

The refuge provided this free float, also providing all the necessities including kayak or canoe paddles and life vests. "The riveris in our favor today," leader Kevin Jones commented, "with recentrains, the Wallkill’s waters are just high enough for a good ride."
