On 21 July 2010, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin approved a new Comprehensive Black Bear Management Program (CBBMP) for the State of New Jersey that would include the reintroduction of lethal measures to limit black bear (Ursus americanus) populations. The lethal management provisions would support the reopening of the New Jersey bear hunt, which has been closed since 2005.
The American black bear is North America’s smallest and most common bear. Its range extends over nearly all of Canada, and it is pervasive throughout the Cascade, Rocky and Appalachian mountain ranges in the United States. Small, scattered populations of several subspecies (including the Mexican Black Bear, Florida Black Bear, and Louisiana Black Bear) receive varying levels of protection from federal and state agencies.

Those who want the bear hunt, are trophy hunters.
Fish and Game are LIARS. They are hunters! Why are they in charge of our wildlife? Like foxes guarding a hen house. Disgusting. Bear numbers in NJ are about 1,500 1/2 of what F&G says it is. NO bear has ever killed or seriously injured ANYONE in the state's history. Those so called bear complaints have also been falsely inflated to instill fear and validate another bear hunt. Meanwhile, bears that are deemed nuisance bears are almost always euthanized. The hunt will take place deep in the woods where the bears don't bother anyone, proving that it's a trophy hunt for un-evolved cavemen who need to exert their "manliness" by killing a "powerful" animal. Rather pathetic. The fact that bears can still exist in the most densely populated state in the US is a miracle. Leave them alone.... Stop killing. Start living.
