The Delaware Bay, Delaware Estuary and their environs are in trouble, according to a report released today. But it’s believed that the trend can be reversed if our impacts on the vast ecosystem are managed as a whole, not site-by-site, the report says.
Here are some of the report’s points: The Delaware Bay and estuary are one of the earth’s most complex and diverse ecosystems. Vast stretches of subtidal sands, mud, oyster reefs, beaches and salt and freshwater marshes support more than 200 species of migrant and resident fish and shellfish, including oysters, blue crabs, striped bass, shad and bluefish.
