On Saturday, June 26th, almost 1,500 people joined hands in Asbury Park across the hot sand of the infamous Jersey Shore forming one long human chain along the water’s edge for fifteen minutes. Participating in a global event which called for clean energy and a ban for offshore drilling, Hands Across the Sand, is a movement made up of people from all backgrounds and political affiliations who support the protection of our coastal waters.
The Asbury Park event, hosted by, Clean Ocean Action, Edison Wetlands Association and the Surfrider Foundation, was one of 30 state-wide, and one of 900 events world-wide. The groups organized a press conference on the boardwalk with speakers including U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr., State Senator Robert Kean, and Asbury Park Mayor Ed Johnson.
