On Saturday, June 26, thousands of New Jerseyans will join hands in an act of solidarity against the perils of offshore drilling and the pollution of state beaches. Hands Across the Sand is a collaborative movement made of people of all walks of life and all political affiliations. It is supported by both large and small environmental and civic groups in New Jersey, including the New Jersey Sierra Club, Edison Wetlands Association and the Clean Ocean Action.
According to Hands Across the Sand (http://www.handsacrossthesand.com/), this movement is not about politics; it is about the protection of our coastal economies, oceans, marine wildlife, and fishing industry – all of which are being threatened by the recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Hands Across the Sand event will take place at noon, Saturday, June 26, at three key locations – Asbury Park, Seaside Heights and Atlantic City. Those gathered at the beaches will join hands and form lines in the sand. The image is powerful and the message is simple; say no to offshore drilling, and say yes to clean energy and protecting New Jersey’s vital beaches.
If you would like to get involved with the Hands Across the Sand event, or would like more information on the BP oil spill, please visit one of the following sites:
