New Jersey’s unsuccessful experiment in sinking subway cars for artificial reefs has not derailed the rest of the reef program. The state plans to sink a 90-foot vessel next week about six miles off Sea Isle City. A 60-foot deck barge was sunk in May off Ocean County’s Mantoloking. The program is still a popular way to create structures that attract fish and to get rid of hulks that would be costly to scrap.
