WildNewJersey.tv correspondent Jillian Weislo recently visited The Raptor Trust in Millington, NJ, to follow up on the orphaned Eastern screech owlet found in Hackettstown two weeks ago.
"The owl is doing just fine," a staff member told Weislo. "He's being kept in the infirmary with seven other screech owlets right now and we are very confident at this point that he will be able to be released back into the wild."
The determination that the bird was an Eastern Screech-owl confirmed.
When grown and self sufficient, all captive-bred young are transported to the proper habitat, at the proper time of year, and released to the wild. Over the years, nearly 200 young raptors born at the Trust have been set free.
If you have found an injured or orphaned bird visit The Raptor Trust website.
For all other wildlife, visit the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife website.
